The surgeons of Northwestern LASIK Physicians will have to determine if you are a candidate for laser vision correction before they suggest the LASIK procedure. Typically, it is required that patients meet all the criteria before they will perform LASIK on a patient. As a potential patient you should review the list below to determine if you meet the preliminary requirements for laser vision correction:

• I suffer from nearsightedness, farsightedness, or have an astigmatism.
• I am over the age of 18
• My vision has been stable for about 3 years.
• I have no recurring inflammation in eyes.
• I have no health issues that may affect my eyes (e.g., Rheumatoid Arthritis or Diabetes that's currently affecting your eyes.

If you have determined that you meet the preliminary requirements for laser vision correction, one of our skillful surgeons will perform a LASIK evaluation on your eyes. Each pair of eyes has unique characteristics that need to be evaluated by a surgeon. The surgeon will assess your eyes with a thorough evaluation that will involve a series of diagnostic eye tests to determine the stability of your vision. Some of the diagnostic eye tests are as follows:

• The measurement of corneal thickness, including corneal topography
• Complete review of overall eye health
• The measurement of your prescription or refractive errors
• Custom LASIK measurement for higher order aberrations
• Dry eye test
• Complete dilation of the eye to view the retina
• Review of glasses and contact lenses history
• Measurement of pupil size
