Premium Lens Implants

Cataract Surgery Chicago - Northwestern LASIK Physicians proudly offers patients multifocal intraocular lenses to replace their natural crystalline lens during cataract surgery.

CrystalensAs your eyes age, your vision will likely worsen with time and it is not uncommon to develop a clouding of the natural lens. The clouding is considered a cataract which will impair vision as it grows and becomes fully developed. The only treatment option for a cataract is to have it removed via surgery. The surgery has become one of the most common procedures performed in the U.S. and abroad on a daily basis. Modern technology has granted cataract surgeons the ability to restore vision with intraocular lenses. Intraocular lenses help to reduce a patients dependence on glasses or contacts.

Crystalens for Cataracts

Crystalens is an accommodative intraocular lens that helps to improve vision post cataract surgery. The Crystalens is implanted during cataract surgery and it provides patients with the ability to focus on objects after surgery. The FDA approved the Crystalens in 2003 as an accommodative lens that allows patients to see near, intermediate and at distances without having trouble focusing on an object. The lens acts like the natural eye's lens in that it uses the eye muscles to move and focus. If you would like to learn more about the Crystalens, please contact Northwestern LASIK Physicians to find out if you would be a good candidate.

Other Intraocular Lenses

In addition to Crystalens, there are several types of intraocular lens implants that may also be used to correct distance and near vision. Currently available lenses include the ReSTOR and the ReZOOM.

ReZoom

ReZoomReZoom Intraocular Lenses (IOLs) are used to correct vision for people who are suffering from cataracts. In treating cataracts with ReZoom, the eye’s natural, crystalline lens is removed and replaced with an IOL. In the past, IOLs were monofocal, meaning they were pre-focused so that you could see either up close or far away, and you would need glasses to see other distances, but with ReZoom IOLs, you can see clearly at a variety of distances.

ReZoom IOLs use multifocal zones to provide you with clear vision at many different distances. Depending on the amount of light present, and the distance of the object from you, the ReZoom IOL zones allow you to see different distances clearly. For the most part, patients who correct their cataracts with ReZoom IOLs no longer need to use glasses or contacts to perform day-to-day tasks.

If you are suffering from cataracts, and live in the Chicago, Illinois area, contact Northwestern LASIK Physicians to learn more about ReZoom IOLs and how they can improve your vision.
